My Take, December 21, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Acer AS7739Z-4439 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black) (Personal Computers) I am deployed as a contractor and bought this for the sole purpose of staying in contact with the family as well as having the ability to have some basic MS Office software (word/excel/PPT, and Outlook). First let me say that I only paid 450 bucks for this thing during balck friday specials so for the money this thing is awesome.
What I like. It's fast, nice keyboard, and the 17.3 inch screen is really nice. It came with Mcaffee start up which enabled me to buy the first year of service for less than 40 bucks. This has an HDMI port on it so I bought a HDMI cable and plug it into my TV so when I Skype I can see my wife/daughter on my 32 inch TV screen as well as surf facebook while viewing it on my TV. I can Skype, e-mail, surf the net with zero issues thus far. Cosmetically this thing is pretty sweet, keyboard is very easy to move around and I am a big fan of the "pinch" option on the scroll pad (although sometimes you can expand/minimize your screen font accidently... a lot of technology for the dollar, December 17, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Acer AS7739Z-4439 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black) (Personal Computers) If you haven't bought a laptop in a while (like me) you will be surprised how much technology you can get for around 400 bucks. For an 'entry level' laptop this really seems like quite an amazing deal.
pros:
- The screen is beautiful. Huge, bright, LED, easy on the eyes.
- Thin...really thin compared to an older laptop! And lightweight.
- The keyboard is large...the keys seem more 'spread out' than other laptop keyboards I am used to using. Plus a full-size number pad. The keys feel solid....much more solid than, say, older Dell laptops (which I have about 100 of btw). There is no 'give' to the keyboard.
- The entire laptop case is made of a plastic that has a "diamond hatch" pattern - similar to the pattern on truck running boards and the like. I like it...it hides the fingerprints better. It feels surprisingly sturdy. It does not feel like it has a lot of 'give' to it...many laptops feel a little too flexible to me. This... Read more
